Novice Robert Springate to debut the DPR Motorsport R300 at Snetterton

21 year old novice driver Robert Springate will be driving the newly-built DPR Motorsport Superlight R300 at Snetterton where he will be the youngest driver taking part. Despite having his total race experience limited to only seven rounds in the Caterham Roadsport A championship, DPR Motorsport team principal David Rowe believes Springate has the ability to take his driving to the Superlight level of the Caterham Motorsport ladder.

Springate tests at Dunsfold

After the first shakedown test in the R300 at Dunsfold, Robert Springate said “This was truly an amazing experience. I got far more from the driving experience than the 50% increase in power from the Caterham Roadsport A might suggest. The Caterham R300 is at least twice the Roadsport A in every department - it seems have twice the on-track power with much increased braking capacity to match. The handling is better balanced and with the additional power the Caterham R300 driving experience is much more rewarding; the R300 feels like a real race car rather than a fast road car.”

David Rowe said “Robert has had some great results in highly competitive Caterham racing despite having passed his ARDS (racing driver) test less than a year ago. I took notice when Robert achieved 6th in his first-ever race at Brands Hatch. This year he gained a 1st at Oulton Park with a three second lead over seasoned competitor Roelant De Waard. However the decider for us was when Robert gained a 3rd and 1st recently at Brands Hatch, including getting pole and the two fastest laps, demonstrating that he had the pace to win in both races.

Caterham racing is subject to strict scrutineering controls to ensure all cars are identical in terms of components and potential on-track performance. Success in Caterham racing requires high driver skill and a well set-up race car.

As our lead technician, Robert was heavily involved in the build of both his Roadsport A and now the R300. Our own R300 is built to the same highly-engineered specification as the DPR Motorsport prepared R300 of Jon Walker that is currently leading the championship.

Racing at the Superlight R300 level of the Caterham motorsport ladder will put Robert head-to-head against highly experienced Caterham drivers. If Robert can rise to the challenge he will have a great opportunity to develop his race-craft to a new level.”
