DPR drivers dominate at Oulton Park

DPR Motorsport supported drivers had some great results at Oulton Park with Jon Walker’s pole, 1st and 2nd place results in the two Superlight R300 races and in Roadsport A Robert Springate’s 1st and 6th. Magd Mohaffel gained two further solid results (two 5ths) and is now 3rd overall in the Caterham Roadsport A championship.

In Roadsport B, the DPR Motorsport set-up car of novice Andrew Harrison-Sleap now has two fastest laps (Silverstone & Oulton) to position him third overall in the fastest driver challenge and fifth overall in the Caterham Roadsport B championship.

Superlight R300

Jon Walker - Pole, 1st & 2nd

Jon Walker took the Superlight R300 pole with a qualifying time of 1:52.7, only 2.4 seconds behind the pole time for the much more powerful Dan Denis R400 and a stunning 5.1 seconds faster than the pole time for Roadsport A. The R300 grid was given an extra dimension by the presence of Paul O’Neill in Caterham’s own R300. As well as being a leading touring car driver Paul is also an established instructor at Oulton Park. Jon Walker’s DPR Motorsport prepared R300 dominated the closing stages of the first race to win by almost 18 seconds. Heavy rain was forecast for the second race and this caused Paul O’Neill to make a fateful decision to run with a wet set-up.

Jon Walker said “My first race win was a great outcome with a clear lead over the rest of the pack. It was a fantastic experience to race against Paul O’Neill who, particularly in the second race, was driving at a different level to the rest of us. In the second race I had a fantastic duel with Paul and only managed to pass because of his wet set-up and the conditions remaining dry. By this time Mathew Draper had an established lead and the pace to win the race, although at the end there was only 1.4 seconds between us.

These great results at Oulton Park show we have the race performance we need to challenge for a championship win.”

Caterham Roadsport A

Robert Springate 1st & 6th

Novice driver Robert Springate had a great start to the weekend by qualifying 5th overall and made good use of his grid position to gain an early lead and then break the tow of the following pack. Robert finished the race with a 3.3 second advantage over race favourite and pole Roelant de Waard.

In the second race Robert was unable to break through the leading pack but finished a creditable 6th overall with some rapid laps to his credit.

Robert Springate said “This was only my third Roadsport A race weekend and my first race here at Oulton. To get my first outright race win at Oulton was an awesome outcome and I am looking forward to the challenge of the remaining championship races.”

Magd Mohaffel - two 5ths

This is Magd Mohaffel’s first year in Roadsport A with solid near-podium results at the first two championship rounds. In his second race he had momentary fame by setting a new record of 1.57.508 only to see this snatched away by Rapheal Florentino’s 1.57.110 on the final lap.

Magd Mohaffel said “Being 3rd overall in the championship is a great start to the year. Having the pace to be in the leading pack provides a springboard for challenging for wins in future races. It is great to be racing in the same team as Jon Walker and Robert Springate as we can support each other whilst still competing for that podium result.”
