Caterham Superlight R300-S Championship

David Robinson increases his championship lead. DPR R300 team drivers 1-2-3 in race one.

The first race saw David Robinson make a break at the start and his championship rival Aaron Head forced to retire with a suspension failure after a close encounter with another competitor. This enabled David Robinson to increase his lead lap-by-lap during which he set the fastest lap and a new lap record of 1:36.8 seconds, all the more impressive for being set in clean air. By winning nine races from the ten so far this year, David Robinson has also set a new record for the highest number of outright wins gained in a championship year.

At the end of this race, David Robinson crossed the line 13 seconds ahead of his fellow DPR team drivers Sean Byrne (2nd) and Jon Mortimer (3rd). Congratulations to Sean Byrne for his first 2nd place result in 2015 and Jon Mortimer for his debut podium result and to all three podium winners for being part of the first-ever 1-2-3 by DPR team drivers in the R300 championship.

Race two had a melee on Paddock that removed a number of mid-field runners and a sustained yellow flag whilst the offending cars were being extracted from the gravel. Aaron Head recovered from his back of the grid start to charge through the field to take second place as the race reached its closing stages and crossed the line 2.3 seconds behind David Robinson. Head gained fastest lap although slower than that set by David Robinson in race one.

In the three-way fight for third Lee Wiggins gained the podium place closely followed by Sean Byrne and Jon Mortimer in 4th and 5th.
