Caterham Academy Mallory: Elliott Norris and Andrew Welch claim the 2011 championships

With one race still to go both Elliott Norris and Andrew Welch have secured their respective group championship wins. The third place result achieved by Elliott Norris at Mallory was sufficient to make the outcome inevitable, after allowing for the ability to drop one result from the championship total. Likewise despite “rain stopping play” for Group 2 Andrew Welch achieved a similar outcome.

Elliott Norris - Group 1

Elliot won his first three Academy events and followed this with two 2nd’s and one third enabling him to be declared the championship winner after the last race at Mallory. Despite falling back after an on-track tussle he showed his championship form by climbing back to third, including setting the fastest lap.

Andrew Welch - Group 2

Andrew’s race results have shown little deviation with wins in four out of the five events preceding Mallory including two fastest laps at Brands and Rockingham. Andrew qualified second behind Brad Smith’s pole with all to play for in the race itself. However the result became determined by the on-track weather as the race was abandoned due to track conditions and racing incidents.

With a 13 point advantage over nearest rival Brad Smith and the requirement to drop one result from the championship total Andrew secured his win for the Group 2 championship honours.

DPR Congratulations go to both Elliott Norris and Andrew Welch

DPR Team Principal David Rowe said “Both Elliott and Andrew have demonstrated their ability in a convincing manner. For both group championships to be determined with a race to go is unprecedented. During 2011 we provided a set up service to both Elliott and Andrew and it was pleasing to see both drivers achieving such excellent results.”
